Asher Eisenberg is a brilliant actor, destined for fame and fortune. But he can’t deny his attraction to Asher and finally agrees to a date if Asher can go thirty days without a drink.

Thomas' series Seasons of Love. All of the books in this series are ...

Autumn Changes is the third book in B.G. Thomas' series Seasons of Love. All of the books in this series are stand alone books, but do yourself a favor and buy every book in the series. Read them in order. That way, you'll get to know and fall in love with each of the four main characters. Start with the first book, Spring Affair--- That's where you'll first meet all four of the main characters.---- Sloan, Scott, Asher, and (my personal favorite) Wyatt. In Spring Affair, you'll see the endearing love story of Sloan as he meets Max, his MR RIGHT. Then read Summer Love and and watch as Scott goes from being sad and cynical to open and caring when he meets the right man, Cedar. Then it's Asher's turn to fall in love in Autumn Changes. Those of us who've been reading these books from the very beginning never thought Asher would be able to fall in love. He was the guy who slept with every hot man he met, but then tossed them aside. But in Autumn Changes, Asher meets his match. A man who is able to get Asher to look at himself and finally realize that things in his past have made him build a wall around himself and not let his emotions out. At the same time, that wall won't let anyone IN. But when he starts seeing Peni, that wall chips slowly away. Mr Thomas doesn't cheat his readers. He doesn't simply let Asher's wall tumble down all at once. Thomas takes us through the process as the wall comes down brick by brick. And as some of those bricks fall, you will find yourself with tears in your eyes and a lump in your throat.
Yes, Thomas' books usually do have a happy ending. But those endings are never trite of too easily accomplished. The four main characters in these books work hard to reach their happy endings.
AND.......Thomas is a master at doing research. His books are never just boy-meets-boy/ boy-falls in love with- boy stories, He fleshes out his plots with REAL locations, REAL cultures, REAL live theater productions, and more. In Autumn Changes, we're introduced to the Samoan culture. It's an interesting, exciting culture to learn about. I, myself, know a lot of Samoan people because I live on Maui where the population is very cosmopolitan...........every culture imaginable lives here in harmony on our island. It was wonderful to learn so much about the Samoan culture through the character of Peni and his family.
If you've read any of my other reviews of B.G. Thomas' books, you already know that he's my favorite author. He takes the gay romance genre and brings it to a new level. Too many authors of gay romance grind out book after book that follow a cookie-cutter pattern. And those books rely too heavily on the sex scenes. To all you authors out there, I say-- WE NEED MORE PLOT AND LESS SEX. We want to care about the characters. We want to believe in the characters. We want to love the characters. Take a lesson from Mr Thomas and learn to make your characters three-dimensional and believable.
Now the wait begins...........for those of us who have already read the first 3 books in the Seasons of Love series, NOW WE ALL WANT TO READ WYATT'S STORY! I have the feeling you saved Wyatt's story for last, Mr Thomas, because you know that ALL OF US love Wyatt the most!!
Keep up the fantastic writing, Mr Thomas. I will keep reading EVERYTHING you write!!!!

Loved “Autumn Changes” by B.g. Thomas!

This is the third book in the Seasons of Love series where a group of four friends each experience a journey to finding love. The books are a part of a series that work as standalones stories, but also interconnect with each other and share the same characters throughout.
“Autumn Changes” tells the story of two men: Asher and Peni. Asher was featured in the previous two books as being unlikable because of his ego, constant drinking and using men only for sex. Peni has objections to alcohol and agrees to go out with Asher if he promises not to drink for 30 days. During this time, Asher realizes how hollow his life has become and had been using alcohol to suppress painful memories from his past.
Peni, a young Samoan man, was brought up as a Mormon and basically taught that homosexuality is a sin. He struggles to accept himself, but also wants to honor his Samoan heritage in becoming a man. Asher and Peni come together to support one another in their own journeys of self-discovery.
The writing is incredibly well-done and you really feel like these characters are real people going through real struggles in their lives. Asher and Peni go through real heartache and a lot of hard work to become the better men that they need to become.
A tremendous amount of research went into this story. Facts about Judaism, Mormonism, the Samoan language and the Samoan culture are featured prominently throughout the story. It gives an interesting and insightful look into other cultures and religions and shows how diverse people are.
I will say it’s not as good as “Summer Lover”, but it comes very close. I can’t wait to read the final book in the series where we will see the last friend, Wyatt (my personal favorite!), find true love.

Beautiful, surprising, and touching

This was a story that grabbed me from the first page and held my attention throughout. I couldn’t put it down. There are so many wonderful elements, from the well-crafted plot to the range of emotions. This was definitely one that hit every one of my reading sweet spots.
Asher is a character who begins the story as lovably hateful. What makes him such a delight to read is that everyone around him is keenly aware of how awful he is–everyone but himself, that is. Watching him unfold and heal from his scars was funny and beautiful and heartbreaking. His admittance of his need to change left me in tears of relief and happiness.
Peni, in contrast, is a gentle, honest man. What I loved was learning about Samoan culture through him and how he was able to heal from his own scars. His self-discovery is vastly different from Asher’s, but it’s equally wonderful sharing his triumph at finding his place among friends and celebrating his heritage.
These two men enjoy a slow yet surprising journey toward each other. For me, it was exactly the right pacing for both the love story and the physical culmination of their union. Everything about it left me wanting more.
Although this is part of a series, it was easy to enjoy it as a stand-alone. I’m so glad I took a chance and picked this one up.
