A former university professor and humanitarian adviser for the United Nations, Dr Parisetti is a member of the Society for Psychical Research and of the International Association for Near-Death Studies. A Lively and Entertaining "Pick Up and Browse" Introduction To Consciousness Studies

“Blogging is to literature what graffiti is to visual arts,” admits Scottish/Italian doctor and psychotherapist Piero Calvi-Parisetti, as he introduces this collection of 57 of his personal blogs, all of which support his firm belief in an afterlife. Each pithy article illuminates a particular subject, supported by scientific psychical research. He reconciles reincarnation with the existence of discarnate personalities and covers overcoming grief; the mind/brain relationship; psi; psychic mediums; Electronic Voice Phenomena, and more, including Dr. Raymond Moody’s fascinating “Psychomanteum.” Each topic reveals research that offers proof of survival after death, “not as a matter of faith or wishful thinking, but based on masses of compelling evidence,” insists Parisetti.
He built his grief-counseling practice upon this evidence, insisting that cultivating a belief in an afterlife offers immediate relief to the bereaved and dying. He designed his unique practice with “afterlife education” at the heart, embracing a “no-compromise” approach. “Just rattle the cage and tell the bereaved and the dying that death as we commonly think of it doesn’t exist—not as a matter or faith or wishful thinking, but based on masses of compelling evidence.” As renowned consciousness pioneer Gary E. Schwartz aptly notes in his foreword, “He is not afraid to pull punches and tells it as he sees it.” Parisetti’s passion is compelling, because he backs his reasoning with evidence.
He fearlessly challenges Elizabeth Kubler Ross’s well-known “stages of grief” concept as outdated, then takes on the biblical conventions that keep people in mourning. “I feel passionately about this problem . . . . I had the painful experience of accompanying my dearest friend in a three-year dramatic battle with cancer. What was painful was certainly not being at my friend’s side during those difficult times . . . . What I simply cannot stand is the idea that he died an anguished man. A committed Catholic, he was convinced that he was going to face judgment for sins he believed he had committed.”
Parisetti cares deeply about these topics, as evidenced throughout, and his passion and enthusiasm for psychical research proves engaging and highly contagious. His book is a heart-felt, fact-filled, fast-paced, entertaining read that will appeal to all seekers of knowledge regarding the realities of an afterlife.

A Menu of Psychic Delights

Imagine a huge dinner party - long tables full of fascinating guests who happen to be experts in psychical research.

Each guest gives a short talk, crisp and to the point, about some aspect of this intriguing subject.

That's what it's like - without the food and drink - to read a copy of Piero Calvi-Parisetti's new book.

The book is a compendium of 57 articles former medical doctor Piero wrote and published on his blog in which he researched worldwide the latest pioneers in psi, and cleverly summarised intruiging aspects of their work to bring to a larger audience.

If you're unfamiliar with the field you won't get lost in a sea of technical jargon but will be brought right up to date with easy to read facts to convince you that certainly 'something's going on'.

If, like me, you've been digging around this territory for years and think you've heard it all - there are many gems and nuggets of knowledge here to keep you dining at 'Piero's party' right through the main course and on to dessert.

Piero hits the mark from the start with his excellent and poetic thought:

We are not physical bodies,
with a consciousness that we lose at death.
We are consciousness,
with a physical body that we lose at death

Did you know for instance about Induced After Death Communication which is a method enabling anybody to link up with the deceased with deep emotion - but without the need for a medium?

Ever heard of a 'psychomanteum' based on the ancient Greek Oracle of the Dead, which using mirrors can achieve contact with other-side loved ones?

And what about those mysterious raps heard during poltergeist outbreaks? Whoever would have thought that analysis of recordings of such sounds prove conclusively that they can't have been made by normal physical means?

This is an excellent bedside book to be opened at random for new insights into a subject which is surely the science of tomorrow.

This is, in my view, an excellent book. Originally, the 57 articles that make up this book were posted on Dr Parisetti's website and each one can be read, and enjoyed, in isolation to the others and yet there is a natural progression throughout that encourages the reader to move onto the next article. There is so much to enjoy in this book as a whole. The subjects explored for one. These range over areas such as, whether we - and our loved ones - survive bodily death; the mind - brain and what constitutes consciousness question; whether mediums actually talk to the dead and the science of mediumship. For me personally, the articles on real help for grief are fundamentally both so vital and interesting and I would just say that anyone suffering from the loss of a loved one may well find these articles in the book profoundly important. Alongside the subject explored in the book, I so also enjoyed the style and language used throughout. This is a serious book dealing with the most serious of subjects and yet delivered in such a clear, approachable and yes, enjoyable manner. I do so recommend this book - as anyone reading this review can no doubt gather!

About the Author

Andrew Walter is Reader in International Political Economy and Research Associate in the Department of Management at the London School of Economics and Political Science, and Academic Director of the TRIUM Global Executive MBA Programme. He sits on the Council of Chatham House, a leading British think-tank of international affairs, and on the Academic Advisory Panel of The International Centre for Financial Regulation. His research has focused primarily on the political economy of global financial and monetary relations, with a regional focus on East Asia. His recent books include Governing Finance: East Asia's Adoption of International Standards (Cornell University Press, 2008), Analyzing the Global Political Economy (Princeton University Press, 2009, with Gautam Sen), and China, the United States, and Global Order (Cambridge University Press, 2011, with Rosemary Foot).

Xiaoke Zhan is Professor at the Manchester Business School, the University of Manchester. His research interests are in comparative political economy, with a regional focus on East Asia. His recent publications include The Political Economy of Capital Market Reforms in Southeast Asia (Palgrave Macmillan 2011) and International Financial Governance under Stress (Cambridge University Press, 2003, with Geoffrey R.D. The magic of not being "normal"

This is a lovely story of a young man with ADHD who gets into the kind of unbelievable trouble that can happen to those with "butterfly brains" and is rescued by a man who is a "science geek" Neither of them is really "normal" and they are both very sweet as they see what is wonderful about the other. They both grow as people gaining self understanding and courage along the way.

One of my dearest friends has ADHD and Amy Lane captures some of the magic of them in this story. Wonderful connections with nature, joy and awe, and endless energy to do good that produces results over time. I like that she points out that most people with ADHD are smart. This has certainly been my experience knowing several people who have ADHD. They just need a few adaptations to focus on one task to completion. My friend used to have a a sign that said "Dear God, I can explain."

In the midst of discovering each other, they have a mystery of what is causing frogs to be deformed, crazy ex-boyfriend troubles, bad sex and good sex, and an absent father pulled together in a good plot.

Whiskey is soooo smoothe!!!

Wow, I just finished my review with the Paranormal Romance Guilds Dual Review Team, of Amy Lanes August release of A Solid Core of Alpha and here I am in September doing a solo review for her newest release Clearwater. What are the odds???

Reading this newest story, my first thought was I found a human Whim...Do you remember Lithia's Constant Whim? A novella from the world of the Little Goddess series?. Whim is described by the author As Constant as a bumblebee in a hurricane and as faithful as a stray breeze. Enter Patrick Cleary.

We are taught through Amy Lanes eyes what ADHD is, and how it affects the minds of people who are afflicted with it. But, we are taught in the only way Amy Lane knows, through love, family and heart.

We meet Patrick Cleary who has decided he is a mess. He has been advantaged financially all his life, living off a rich Daddy, having the `best of everything' and not being honest with his father or himself. When that day finally arrives, will anyone take him seriously?

Wesley `Whiskey' Keenen, is a biologist, living on the dirtiest, tackiest houseboat in the middle of a delta swamp. He is there with fellow biologist and friend Freya nicknamed Fly Bait, running tests on mutant frogs. He sees a car careening off a bridge one evening, as he sits out side looking at the stars.. He watches in horrer as the driver swims away leaving the unconscious passenger to die. Whiskey pulls the passenger out and saves his life. This is their story.

Again Amy Lane has yet again detoured from her accustomed path and has not only written a wonderful love story of patience and trust, but she has entwined all of it adding a good mystery whodunit. Whiskey is as sexy as his name sounds. He brings such strength into the growing relationship, you cannot help but love him.

Patrick thinks himself a giant screw up, there is not a moment where he is not falling or bunking himself...a giant Klutz. But as Whiskey watches this slip of a man, he `gets it'. He sees more control when Patrick takes his meds . They grow into a friendship that could lead to more. Patrick does not want to leave the houseboat, he does not want to contact his father Shawn. He has found something here and loves helping with the frogs he has befriended and even named.
I loved how we see Patrick grow, and then we get into the findings of the pollution in the swamps which leads us to the bigger mysteries. Again the story was paced beautifully, the character ensemble was great...With Amy stories, as always the good are good and the bad are truly evil. I loved it when Patrick with some prodding from Whiskey can find his true beauty within. Totally a fun read

I've read several Amy Lane books but this is my favorite. Well-written characters and a plot that moves quickly and beautifully. A very satisfying read. Well done! Keep up the good work!

" So be like President Obama and be smart enough to leave when ...

As the wife of an Iraq War veteran, I bought this for my children. However, the author has a very clearly liberal point of view. He/She blames Bush for nearly everything and declares Obama to be the hero of the day. A segment reads, " So be like President Obama and be smart enough to leave when it is time." If you hold a very liberal viewpoint and have little first hand information about the war, you will probably identify with this book. If you do not hold a liberal viewpoint or have first hand experience with combat in Iraq, you will most likely find many problems with the authors conclusions which are stated as facts, not opinions. In the end, I was very disappointed. As a teacher in public education, perhaps we should just teach our children facts and keep away from trying to teach them political ideologies - whether they be left leaning or right leaning. Because of this, I would not recommend KidCaps books of any sort, and it is odd that I could not find an author attached to this book.

good story

I thought this was a great read. I actually purchased this to read myself and I am 26. I am no expert of the conflicts in the Middle East and I wanted a quick over view before I got into more heavy readings about the Iraq war. I feel that the author did a excellent job keeping the text brief and decoding president Bush's speeches and motives for the Iraq war.

My son is 9 years-old. He loves reading anything about wars - he especially liked this one because he could identify with the viewpoint. The language was good, also, for a 9 year-old.
