It is a commonplace in biographies of Disraeli that his attitude to the East and the Eastern Question is essential for understanding his complex persona and the most crucial period of his career, yet until now this topic has not been researched in detail. Disraeli and the Eastern Question now fills this gap, providing the first complete reconstruction of Disraeli's attitudes towards the East and the Eastern Question as a whole, from his early youth onwards, and using a wide range of primary sources, from Disraeli's private papers, correspondence, and novels, the manuscript collections of Queen Victoria and the Prime Minister's closest associates, to the minutes of Parliamentary debates and the official correspondence of the Foreign Office, as well as Russian, Serbian, Bulgarian, and Albanian documents. ' The new edition is still based on the lec� tures which I continue to give at Birmingham University, but over the years the course has gradually changed, to being a system based course covering all aspects of the kidney - the anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and pathology. The new edition of the book, which has been extensively revised and rewritten, reflects this. However, it continues to offer a concise, easily readable format, primarily intended for undergraduate medical and medical science students.

PREFACE

Why $2,000 Per Month and Not More, or Less?

I settled on this amount because I believe it’s totally achievable within three to six months if you’re constantly producing, as my numbers will show. I earned almost $2,000 within the first couple of months that I started writing romance regularly. I had seven titles out, which included the one I’d written in May of last year (2013). I published six short novels between March and April of this year (2014), which is one reason my income exploded so quickly, in my opinion.

And this is with practically no marketing; no name recognition as a romance writer; and again no experience writing in this genre before May of 2013. This is very important to keep in mind.

With this type of output (I didn’t say it was gonna be easy, just very possible), if you’re writing good stories in a popular genre, I’d say you can duplicate my success. And the reason I know this is that I’ve read at least 20 or 30 stories on the web of new romance writers who’ve done the same thing – most earning much more than I have.

I like to give people totally reachable goals though. That’s why I’m not promising that you’re going to become rich writing romance. It’s possible, but it’s not a claim I can make because I haven’t done it (yet!).

I can only tell you what’s worked for me. Which is why what I will say is that I think earning $2,000 to $3,000 per month writing romance is very possible within six months – if you constantly put out new titles (eg, one a week; minimally two to three per month) and follow some of the marketing advice discussed within – which is very minimal.

So much better than similar guides, sincere and helpful info from an author who has had success

This is a great guide for writers of short or long romance or erotica. I was fortunate enough to read it with my Kindle Unlimited subscription when it was available there. However, I do feel it is worth the asking price. Much better than the shorter ebooks on writing short romantic or erotic fiction out there. Thanks to Yuwanda for a helpful guide that truly puts the reader (aspiring author) first.

A Quick Start Guide To Writing Fiction

I found this book to be a good guide to writing fiction quickly- especially if you don't have experience. Her advice refers to romance (because it is the highest selling genre) but it applies to non romance work as well. The link to the thread about the high earning author in erotica was extremely helpful! I read the entire thread. As someone new to self-publishing, it was a great supplement to the advice Black gives.

The Table of Contents tells you exactly what you'll be reading in this book but I'll go into a little more detail. She posts some screen shots and a lot of sales numbers. She shows you sales numbers from her first book, increased sales from her first and second book, and sales from her highest performing title. She provides links to other helpful resources which led me down a wonderful rabbit hole of research on self -publishing.

She clearly states that she will not tell you how to write romance but provide you with a few tips about linking characters between books and outlining your book. From what I've researched, there is no one way to write romance.

Overall, it is a great guide if you want to get started today. I hope to update Ms. Black in the future of my own success based on her advice.

Reads Like Extended Footnotes

One of the dilemmas researchers have is how to make their material accessible for a broader audience than just their peers.

Given the potential consequences of nuclear proliferation and the complexity of the issues, one would hope experts in this field could summarize issues in a way that policy makers (and the public) can understand and take action.

Unfortunately the author (who I respect tremendously,) and the book fails- the author provides a laundry list of facts and fails to integrate them in a coherent whole.

Nuclear weapons complex
Trying to describe the dangers of proliferation without putting centrifuges in context of a weapons complex assumes the reader is a domain expert like the author. In the 244 pages of the book there wasn't a single description of the components of a weapons complex.

It would have been helpful to start with the U.S. Manhattan Project and describe and diagram what were the key facilities necessary for a Plutonium weapon. How were these facilities different for a U-235 weapon? Why did we and other countries choose both?

This introduction could have been done in a 2 pages and a simplified diagram of the U.S. nuclear weapons complex.

Nuclear weapons Design
The goal of fissile material production is a weapon. Using U-235 versus plutonium has benefits and drawbacks. What are they? Why are fusion weapons harder to produce?

This introduction to the weapons could have been done in a 1/2 page with a diagram of the two types of fission weapons and a third showing a fusion device.

U-235 Separation Choices
Why did the U.S. initially use electromagnetic separation versus thermal, to produce U-235? Why has centrifuge separation for U-235 become the current method of U-235 production for proliferators?

This introduction could have been done in 2 pages and a diagram.

Centrifuges
Amazingly the book lacks a diagram of the components that make up a centrifuge. Yet the numbingly long list of centrifuge parts are thrown out to the reader without context. ([...] and the NRC have simplified diagrams, so do many others.)

This didn't have to be a huge section of the book, 5 pages would have sufficed, but it would have turned the mind-numbing laundry list of facts into a coherent story.

Centrifuge separation plant
The core of this book is how Pakistan used illicit trade to build their centrifuge separation plant and closes with Iran about to complete theirs. Unbelievably nowhere in the book is a diagram of the subsystems that make up of a centrifuge separation plant. Yet a key part of the book is the litany of vendors and individuals who contributed to the illicit trade in these subsystems. Where was Leybold-Heraeus's vacuum systems used? Without a diagram these are gratuitous facts without context.

Then how are centrifuges assembled into cascades? How many are needed to get to enriched uranium? To weapons grade?

As this is the heart of the book, 5 pages with a diagram would have allowed the reader to follow the story of not only the Pakistani effort, but understood Iran's progress to date.

Iran
Iran's progress in enriching fuel would be understandable to a layman if there had been a canonical diagram of a separation plant. Then the author could have used it to show their progress year by year. No wonder policy makers and the public are confused.

People/Company Relationships
The author has mined the literature for a list of people and companies who are at the heart of the proliferation scheme. Chapter Two "Pakistan Gets the Bomb" is everything that's wrong with this book. It tells the story of Pakistan and Khan's network in acquiring centrifuge and separation plants components. But it reads like an extended set of footnotes - wonderful for a researcher, but unbelievably tedious an inaccessible to anyone not filing a police report.

All it would have taken is a flow chart, org chart of or some visual way to connect the cast of characters and company's.

Summary
If this book had been marketed as a scholarly research paper I would have rated it much differently (4-stars) than one with a glossy cover and a mass-market title.

My suggestion to the author; you are a great researcher. But if the intent is to reach more than your peers who are experts in WMD and proliferation you need to be able to tell this story simply. Assume you were briefing a member of congress who wasn't a proliferation expert. You have 30 minutes and you want them to understand and remember the issues. It can be done with five diagrams.

Try drawing them and revise the book.

A good informative overview of the spread of nuclear weapons.

A nice and necessary read about the spread of nuclear weapons. A.Q. Khan certainly did a number on the world. Khan took a 1970s design centrifuge and basically brought it to Pakistan to enrich uranium. He also bought parts for the enrichment process. The Chinese gave the Pakis the plans for the bomb, and wallah, the Islamic world has a nuclear member. Then to compound the issue, he offers it to every other jerk country in the world. These are the stellar members of the world community....North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Libia, and apartheid South Africa. Of course if one of these countries every use these devices, then millions will die. That is A.Q. Khan, and his cohorts should be hunted down, and treated as war criminals. This includes the German brokers who made millions out of selling this technology.

How the Third World gets nuclear weapons.

Tech Historian has written a review about what is not in the book, and generally I agree that the book would have benefitted from Tech Historian's suggested additions to the book. However, I'm writing a review about the book that David Albright did write, a book about nuclear weapons proliferation in Pakistan, North Korea, South Africa, Iran and Libya.

The book is well organized; it deals with each country in a separate chapter so that you can keep track of the narrative for that country. The chapters are arranged in such a way that the story of one country is informed by information given in previous chapters about other countries. As you read each chapter, a larger narrative unfolds, linking together the activities of engineers, salesman, arms dealers, and politicians in a dozen countries. The book solidly achieves its purpose of knitting together thousands of details into one coherent, understandable story spanning decades and continents.

The book is written in a straightforward, clear accessible style. It seems to me (I'm not an expert on the subject) thoroughly researched, completely accurate, detailed and informative. Each sentence provides a piece of information; there is no filler. The research in each chapter is supported by dozens of references. Clearly David Albright has done his homework and he knows inside and out what he has written about.

If you want to know how impoverished countries such as North Korea or Pakistan, (and soon Iran), got nuclear weapons and how close we are to terrorists armed with nuclear weapons, then you'd do well to read this book. I hope you do.

Great for artists

Just as advertised this book has a huge variety of plants to work with. We will be using this book for tattoo reference and it is perfect for this purpose. The images could be used pretty much as is for blackwork. The only critique I have is the paper isn't the highest quality. I wouldn't recommend it for a "high traffic" library. There are two artists in our household so this won't be the case for us. The paper quality is the same for any paperback book you will buy on Amazon, the prices are GREAT but the paper is a little easier to tear. It's a trade off I can easily live with. Great buy for a quieter library.

Gorgeous large illustrations, neatly organized by categories. LOVE how every item is conveniently identified in the index (maybe a handful of the 2400 are labeled unidentified)--very easy to look up the item in the index, it's organized by page and each illustration is assigned a number. I also love how there's extra sections for plant related stuff like ornate pots, green houses, and plants as frames like borders. Overall, excellent purchase.

If you are a specialist in sports law, or a lawyer who would love to get further involved in this increasingly complex field, you'll find much to interest you in this useful handbook on the subject published recently by Edward Elgar. Its publication is indeed timely, especially in the UK in the run-up to the London Olympics in 2012.

Part of a series of `handbooks', covering the latest research and thinking on international law, the book is a collection of learned articles (or `essays' if you prefer) from no less than 25 leading academics and lawyers worldwide and others directly involved in this field.

The book meets a growing need for expert commentary and insight into the regulation not just of sporting activities, but all the related and often controversial commercial and personal issues including, for example, sponsorship, image management, intellectual property, the media and anti-trust regulation, as well as social and health matters such as discrimination, gambling, the protection of youth, anti-doping, field-of-play issues and of course much more. Above all, there is the fundamental issue of fairness.

The book focuses on two main `tracks' which are gradually converging. One is the mainstream institutional framework of the law which includes the International Olympic Committee and other regional, national and international sports authorities. The other is the commercial sports industry, which we've alluded to earlier. As the editors point out, `the best practices and processes for addressing such fundamental issues are becoming more uniform across national boundaries.' The end result, we infer, would be more uniform national (and international) regulation and implementation.

Worthy of note is the article by editor James Nafziger on International Sports Law, which among other things, provides an interesting historical perspective on the ancient Olympic Games which, then as now, were accompanied by law, in other words, rules which, would you believe, included the form of statues dedicated to Zeus.

This is a thought provoking volume which offers much to learn from and enjoy. For ease of reference, each article is uniformly structured, with, typically, an introduction, conclusion and extensive footnoting to aid further research. The index at the back merely indicates the rich lode of information and commentary contained therein. Anyone professionally involved with sport will value this book's contemporary and forward-looking approach to a topic which has now become a matter of global interest and concern.
