Numerical Distance Protection

Distance protection provides the basis for network protection in transmission systems and meshed distribution systems. Initially this book covers the fundamentals of distance protection and the special features of numerical technology. The emphasis is then placed on the application of numerical distance relays in distribution and transmission systems.

For the second edition all contents and especially the product descriptions have been revised and updated.

This book is aimed at students and engineers who wish to familiarise themselves with the subject of power systems protection, as well as the experienced user, entering the are of numerical distance protection. Furthermore it serves as a reference guide for solving application problems.

About the Author
Gerhard Ziegler (Grad. Eng.), was born in 1939, and has been working in the area of power system protection with siemens AG in Erlangen/Nuremberg, Germany for a period of 35 years.

He was active in the areas of product support, application and project planning, marketing and sales, on a world-wide basis. He retired in 2002 but continues to work as consultant.

G. Ziegler has published numerous national and international contributions in the are of power system protection. he served in International organisations for many years.

From 1993 to 2001 he was the German delegate to the IEC TC95 (measuring relays and protection equipment). He is past chairman of the Study Committee 34 (protection and local control) and Honorary Member of CIGRE.

Starting in 1920, Adolph Zukor, Head of Paramount Pictures, over the decade of the 1920s helped to fashion Hollywood into a vertically integrated system, a set of economic innovations which was firmly in place by 1930. For the next three decades, the movie industry in the United States and the rest of the world operated by according to these principles. Cultural, social and economic changes ensured the dernise of this system after the Second World War. A new way to run Hollywood was required. Beginning in 1962, Lew Wasserman of Universal Studios emerged as the key innovator in creating a second studio system. He realized that creating a global media conglomerate was more important than simply being vertically integrated. Gomery's history tells the story of a 'tale of two systems 'using primary materials from a score of archives across the United States as well as a close reading of both the business and trade press of the time. Different view of Hollywood

This is a quite interesting book and definitely looks at Hollywood from a different perspectives. It isn't really a balance look, tho, as it definitely has its loves and hates. Loves old Paramout/Zukor and Wasserman (Universal), hates Zanuck (20th Century Fox) and Hughes (RKO). With Hughes he states numerous time that he destroyed RKO but then only provides a two sentence reason. Given all the space he gives to Zukor and Wasserman, a better description would be helpful. Sometimes he assumes the reader has no knowledge of an event goes on ad nauseum, other times he assumes you know all the details and gives you none. Toward the end he bails and declines to go in depth on a couple of studios because the head is still around (Disney) even tho he's been there for 20 years. More description and even analysis is possible. It also has some really stupid basic mistakes which proofreaders should have caught - million instead of billion, years movies came out, especially Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs (which is given 3 different years). But overall a very good read.

Very complete history

Unlike other histories of the major Hollywood studios that stop at the time when these were sent to separate their production operations, distribution and exhibition, which along with the advent of television decayed produced a to them, this book goes further and reaches modern times. It is interesting to know how they were born, who founded and worked the studies and their creators, all its difficulties, but we should know of those studies now, as Sony is Columbia Pictures, and Paramount sold its catalog to Universal, WB to Seven Arts and all that. These are issues rarely touched in other books on the subject. Interesting and complete.

excellent history of the studio system

Doug Gomery has written a fine book on the history of the Hollywood studio system. Whereas earlier treatments of this topic tend to neglect the period after the rise of television, Gomery does an excellent job of covering that period as well. One argument in the book that scholars will recognize as original is that the studio heads have always been quite concerned about distribution issues and that even though they no longer directly control the majority of movie screens they still have a lot to say about what gets screened and where. There is considerable detail in the book on the history of each of the major studios based on archival materials and interviews. This book should be required reading, in short, for anyone writing about Hollywood in the future.

Drama On The High Seas!

Story begins with a mysterious situation and ends on a emotional high. The characters are set in a contemporary world with superpowers from mind reading to levitation. The author spliced real world and fantasy like any superhero novel, but included hot romance between her main leads to make a reader turn page after page.

Emotions can be deadly when they overpower a person's supernatural ability, a fact Nautia Olson knows all to well. Being labeled unstable since the death of her twin brother Nate, Nautia hasn't been able to control her gift of water manipulation. As an aquator her skill is rare but she is a liability to those around her when she lets any emotion in the form of fear to anger to sadness take over her concentration. So when the U.S. Navy comes asking for her help on a top secret mission via the form of Captain Riley Barton, Nautia isn't sure she is up for the important job. Nautia eventually agrees to the mission thanks to her best friend Kray reminding her that this may be the one chance to find out what really happened to her brother and why she has such vivid nightmares of his death.

Overall, great book that definitely took me by surprise at the end. The mystery of it all was figuring out what was so special and "wrong" with Nautia. The poor girl is obviously special but its the why that bugs you until all is fully revealed. Nautia and Riley's relationship is cute; Basically Riley has it bad for the girl, while the girl is hung up on I don't want to hurt you with my powers problem. So you really kinda fall for Riley because he is sooo understanding and tries to be mister perfect boyfriend despite his mission and rank. Oh and their scenes were steamy, didn't expect that; Perhaps because I was stuck on the whole scifi-mystery part of the book and the romance side took me by surprise. My only issue was how the dialogue played out, the character perspectives changed chapter by chapter, however sometimes the scene would continue into the next chapter while changing into the alternative perspective, which continually broke up the moment for me. Then there is a bit of literary bread crumbs in the story that hinted at more for maybe a sequel, but if none are in the making than the end may have been to rushed in order to have that HEA conclusion. So if you want a new adult novel about a girl trying to find out why and how her brother died while honing her emotions to control her power over all things water aaannd read about her trying to make a relationship work too with a hot captain who is all about her, than this book will be worth a read.

The story is fantastic! Original and engaging, I am hoping for a part 2!

Nautia is a troubled young girl that is having what appears to be post traumatic stress from the death of her twin Nate. Nautia tries hard to get control of her power, she is an aquator - she can control and create water! How awesome would that power be? Nautia has been in therapy, however this isn't helping her. Soon she is targeted by the Navy for a mission. In walks Riley...
Nautia and Riley are instantly drawn to one another. They are each good for the other, however for reasons all their own....they fight it. Nautia has to overcome her issues fast or people will die, and she gets some troubling news once she does.
Breaking Through was a great book! I was instantly drawn into the story and I felt like I was actually there! I do feel that the speed of the middle was a little sluggish, I was ready for some more action. Once the action started I felt that the climax and end were a tad rushed. There is a lot of development for the end to go so fast.
The story is fantastic! Original and engaging, I am hoping for a part 2! Highly suggested as your next read!

thrilling, romantic, will keep you guessing

I was privileged to receive an advanced copy of the book and it had me from the very first page. It was thrilling and captivating while being romantic and funny at the same time as being suspenseful. The the main character had to come to grips with her gift of power over water and also about who she was. She needed to stop fearing herself and try to remember her past. She had her best friend along to help though reading her mind wasn't necessarily helping.
There little group actually consisted of 5 students from the elite school for students with powers. They had been recruited by the Navy for an undercover operation.
The five students and captain had to learn to work together with the five regular navy crew members along on the mission. Each had a job and each was highly depending on the others.
The steamy romance that occurs during the trading for this mission could put the whole team in danger can they keep it secret? Can they act like nothing is going on if they get attacked and one is captured or will one jeopardize the whole team?

Definitely worth the time.I read straight through couldn't put it down

The Basics of the medium Assemblage

clearly and lively written description of the medium assemblage (art) by the curator of ground-breaking exhibition in 1961.
all relevant art movements facilitating the development of collage / assemblage are introduced, as well as important artists such as Picasso, Schwitters, Duchamp, De Kooning and many others. Great help to relate my own work (by name of Drager Meurtant) to that of reknowned artists.
